Pokémon Collection Methodology

See how Pokémon are classified into animal, color, rarity, body shape, design motif, and editorial aesthetic collections, how evidence levels work, and how published, noindex, form-specific, and disputed cases are handled.

Cat Pokémon · Core

Meowth is included as a core cat Pokémon because its established design is primarily built around feline ears, muzzle, paws, whiskers, tail, retractile-claw or big-cat body plan. Its official English genus is “Scratch Cat Pokémon”.

V1 classification lenses

The explorer groups the current V1 collection registry into three practical review lenses. Animal and Color use specialized evidence models; Editorial Profiles covers aesthetic, rarity, body-shape, unusual-looking, and design-motif collections.

How Animal Collections Are Classified

Animal collections evaluate whether a Pokémon shows clear, meaningful, or debated animal inspiration. Membership is multi-label: each animal tag is reviewed independently and can receive a Core, Inspired, Disputed, or excluded result.

Evidence types

Click a card to inspect how that evidence type contributes to an animal membership call.

Membership result

These levels describe evidence strength and ambiguity — not official Pokémon categories.

Evidence confidence

Core

Clear animal inspiration with little ambiguity. Default published membership for animal pages.

Typical evidence: Strong official wording and/or clear anatomical structure with low ambiguity.

Inspired

Meaningful but mixed inspiration. Useful when exploring a broader reading of the collection.

Typical evidence: Partial anatomical or motif cues plus editorial context for mixed designs.

Disputed

Common fan interpretations with real ambiguity. Available when users want the widest view.

Typical evidence: Ambiguous visual readings and fan discussion without decisive official wording.

Decision flow

Meaningful evidence → direct and low ambiguity → Core

Animal collections do not mean

  • Official Pokémon types or Pokédex categories
  • Exclusive single-label biology — multi-label membership is allowed
  • A competitive viability ranking
  • That every fan interpretation must appear in Core by default

Forms and varieties

Form handling differs by collection kind. Animal, color, body-shape, unusual-looking, rarity, and motif pages can diverge when a regional, battle, or special form materially changes the relevant traits.

Reviewed separately

The form meaningfully changes the relevant collection traits.

Uses the parent result

The collection interpretation remains materially unchanged.

Not listed twice

Pure cosmetic forms do not occupy duplicate list positions.

Regional forms

Reviewed when regional redesigns change animal inspiration, primary color, body profile, or motif enough to affect membership. Otherwise they inherit the default reading.

Review workflow

Five steps keep the expanded V1 collection registry transparent, versioned, and safe to publish.

Import V1 assets

Load entity/forms, memberships, color profiles, aesthetic profiles, rarity, body shape, unusual-looking, motifs, size, shiny, and SEO definitions into versioned tables.

Ambiguous cases

Not every design is a clean Core call. Expand a card to see how V1 handles clear, mixed, and debated readings.

Data sources

Structured data, editorial classification, and product metadata stay separate.

Layer 1

Structured Pokémon data

Species, varieties, forms, types, stats, size, primary color, artwork, and species metadata from the local catalog.

Layer 2

Editorial classification data

Animal memberships, color profiles, aesthetic scores, rarity scores, body-shape profiles, unusual-looking profiles, design motifs, shiny visual profiles, and size ranking policies.

Layer 3

Product metadata

Canonical URLs, index/noindex status, default filters, related-page links, review status, source paths, and dataset versions.

Structured data supplies the source facts. Favorite Pokémon maintains the classification rules and published collection results.

Limitations

A few boundaries keep Collection Classification V1 explainable.

Animal ambiguity

Mixed designs may remain open to interpretation and stay Inspired or Disputed.

Color and shiny scope

Normal color pages are publishable; shiny visual profiles are tracked separately and game-specific shiny availability is not included here.

Editorial subjectivity

Cute, Coolest, Ugly, Strangest-looking, Fat, and Round are editorial profiles with transparent rules, not official Pokémon categories.

Noindex motif pages

Egg, Magnet, and Star have structured data but stay noindex because their search intent or content depth needs separate validation.

FAQ

No. Collections are curated exploration tools on Favorite Pokémon. They are not official Pokédex types, categories, or Nintendo/The Pokémon Company taxonomies.
